For Flax Sake &
Scaling for Flax Sake

The For Flax Sake Projects encompass two separate phases of flax-fiber based research, focusing on the craft-knowledge and transferance of cottage-industry growing practices of colonial households in New England and Sweden, and the traditional practice of processing flax towards its end use as a linnen textile.

The For Flax Sake project started in 2023, in Sweden, was funded as a second phase project called Scaling For Flax Sake, where research is produced to document and explore the value chain and feasability of a flax industry in New England.

Artist Tracy Jonsson-Laboy served as head investigator in each project, partnering with experienced flax farmer Kidder Gowen from Hawk and Handsaw Farm.
